Creativity: Being Open to Change

One of the things we love most about producing podcasts is the idea development stage - we spent years in the commercial radio industry producing content for some of the world’s biggest brands, and we love creating podcast formats that both engage audiences and satisfy objectives.

Before we start recording, we love to create a solid format - a set of rules that the podcast will follow to make sure we create the best possible audio for our clients. But what we’ve come to realise over the past few years is that what looks like a brilliant idea on paper can turn into an even better idea once you start recording… This is exactly what’s happened on a couple of the projects we’re working on for release in 2022, because you learn so much in the early days of your project.

We discussed and planned, threw ideas backwards and forwards, and came up with formats that we were all really happy with. But then we started recording and things took a different turn… Guests surprised us, unexpected subjects arose, and new opportunities presented themselves.

So, we adapted and loosened the formats up a little, and do you know what? What we’ve ended up with is even better than what we originally thought!

That’s one of the important things about being creative… The ability and willingness to be open to change. And to hang on to that ability throughout the entire process. We’ve listened to podcasts before where the format worked perfectly for one guest but not so much for the next, and it would have sounded so much better if they’d just been a bit more flexible to adaptation.

When you’re working with us, it’s a constant dialogue throughout. If you think something’s not quite right, we’ll work it out. If we think something could be improved we’ll suggest it - because you can’t always know how something’s going to sound until you try it, and when you listen back to your episodes we want you to be absolutely delighted with them.

Working with Sound Rebel is a collaborative process - we’re not a company who simply edit audio, and pride ourselves on standing side-by-side with the creators that we work with. If this sounds like the kind of relationship you’d like to create, then we’d love to hear from you!

Sound Rebel is a podcast production company based in Liverpool. We produce bespoke podcasts for clients both in the UK and across the world. To talk to us about starting your own podcast, email hello@soundrebel.co.uk
