New Podcast Launch: Ed Talks

Sound Rebel are excited to announce a new podcast production for the Development Office at King Edward’s School and King Edward’s High School for Girls in Birmingham.

In Ed Talks, former KES pupil and Sound Rebel Director Ben Anderson will talk to Old Edwardians who have gone on to have successful careers in different fields. The podcast aims to have a broad reach: it will be listened to by current pupils who are deciding on the career path they’d like to follow after they leave school, but also by the Old Edwardian’s community as a whole to re-engage them with the ongoing activities of the Development Office.

The first episode of Ed Talks will feature Natalie Haynes, a comedian, author and classicist who presents Natalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics on BBC Radio 4 and who is nominated for the Women's Prize for Fiction 2020 with her novel A Thousand Ships

Future guests include author Lee Child, film directors Elliot and Zander Weaver and Dame Louise Makin, the former CEO of healthcare company BTG PLC (a FTSE 250 company which was acquired by Boston Scientific in 2019).

The central aim of King Edward's School and King Edward’s High School for Girls is to provide education for able boys and girls, regardless of the financial circumstances of their families. Their Assisted Places Scheme provides support with fees and ensures the school is accessible to all, and each Ed Talks podcast episode will feature a student-read advertisement to promote the scheme to Old Edwardians who may be able to donate towards it.

Ed Talks will be a remotely recorded podcast, which is essential to this production as many former pupils have left Birmingham to follow careers in countries across the globe. For example, Dr. Seb Heaven will feature as a guest in the first series, talking about his experiences of fighting COVID-19 on the frontlines in Canada.
