New Podcast Launch: Flipping The Narrative

At the end of last year, we said that we had some big new projects lined up to launch over the next few months and Flipping the Narrative is one in particular that we’re really looking forward to getting our teeth stuck into.

This podcast comes from Elmore Community Services, a charity based in Oxford. Elmore works with some of the most complex people in Oxfordshire, who often have multiple separate support needs such as mental health issues, homelessness and rough sleeping, substance misuse, offending, physical disability, self-harm, learning difficulties, domestic abuse, sex working or experience of abuse and neglect.

In light of recent events in the country such as the Sarah Everard and Ashling Murphy cases, Elmore wanted to focus on subjects around violence towards women. The public narrative focussed on what women should be doing to keep themselves safe: this podcast asks men what they can be doing to help stop violence against women, as not being part of the problem doesn’t mean that you are an active part of the solution.

Some of the topics covered in the podcast will be about misogyny in the uniformed services, masculinity and what it means to be a man, the impact of pornography on young men and online sexual harassment.

The hosts are actor and writer Luke Jerdy, and Liz Jones who works for Elmore and has years of experience dealing with people impacted by these kind of issues. They speak to different guests in each episode who have experienced the various topics covered from either side, which leads to some quite confronting and challenging discussions. This is a podcast that may not be easy to listen to at times, but it’s certainly extremely important.

We’re really proud to be producing this podcast and we’re looking forward to it sparking some difficult conversations which will hopefully lead to some real change happening.

Flipping the Narrative launches tomorrow on International Women’s Day, Tuesday 8th March.
