Our Podcast Recommendations

The whole reason Sound Rebel was born back in 2019 was because we LOVE podcasts. Talking about them, developing them, producing them, and of course, listening to them!

So we’d love to share with you what we’re enjoying at the minute…

Ben – Director

The Radio Today Podcast – Yes, I am a big radio geek and probably always will be! I listen to the Radio Today Podcast because even though I don’t work in radio anymore, I still have lots of friends who do and like keeping up with what’s going on in the industry. This podcast knows who their audience is and delivers high quality news and guest interviews to their niche - as a result, becoming the voice of their industry.

Real Dictators – This podcast is made by an independent production company in Bristol called Noiser and I really like their ethos which naturally makes me want to listen to what they’re putting out. The narrator of this series, Paul McGann, has an amazing voice and tells the stories of the rise of real life dictators from Gadhafi to Papa Doc. Basically, I love anything about history and Noiser tell these stories brilliantly, with a depth of production that I really admire.

Gemma – Producer

How To Fail With Elizabeth Day – Weirdly, I read the book that came from the podcast before I listened to the actual podcast itself. But when I did, I binged them, It was the first time I’d not listened to music by the pool on holiday, just this podcast. Elizabeth Day is a fantastic interviewer and the episodes I love the most are all about female empowerment. She has a fantastic way of getting (very famous) people to really open up and be raw and honest about their failures in life, which most of the time ended up not as failures at all because of the lessons learned from them.

Open Mind With Frankie Bridge – Frankie Bridge is so brave in her honestly about her own mental health which naturally encourages her guests to do the same. I think there are lessons to be learned for all of us from this podcast about coping strategies and ways to be feel better, however you’re feeling. And also it’s always a comfort to feel like you’re not alone if you’re going through a tough time.

Tom – Music Producer

My Forever Studio – Hosts Chris Barker and Will Betts guide guests through the dramatic journey to studio foreverdom. Basically music producers all getting together to talk about great music gear. What more could you want?

My Old Man Said – Described as being ‘for the smarter Aston Villa supporter, whom enjoys entertaining yet level-headed insight and informative analysis of their club – both on and off the pitch’ this is all you ever need to know about Aston Villa FC. Lovely.

So although yes, we hope you choose to listen to our podcasts – and we’ve got loads of really great ones – it’s great to give a shout out to other people we admire for doing great work in our industry. After all, there’s room for all of us!
