Podcasts vs Radio
Here at Sound Rebel our background is in radio, and with over 50 years of experience between the key members of the team we like to think we know a bit about it!
Whilst radio will always be our first love there’s so much we love about podcasts that you’ll never be able to get on the radio…
Firstly, it’s all about specific topics with a podcast. You know what you want to listen to and you don’t need to sit through a load of other content you might not be interested in to get to it. If you want to listen to your favourite author talking about their new book you don’t have to wait for the news/weather/travel to finish first. If it’s fitness chat you’re after you don’t have to listen to three of today’s biggest hits first (although we do obviously have the new Adele song on repeat at Sound Rebel HQ).
Secondly, it’s the depth of content you are able to get with a 40 minute podcast episode that you just can’t get on the radio. Hearing someone’s back story and the experiences they went through to get where they are today is something we thrive on – maybe because we’re just really nosey – and a 5 to 10 minute slot on the radio before the guest is booked for another interview straight after is never long enough to really get into it with someone. Podcasts allow you to have a much more natural conversation and really find out what makes someone tick.
Something else we love that podcasts provide is education and the immense range of subject matter within that. Want to learn to meditate? Put a podcast on. Want to find out how to start your journey to giving up alcohol? There’s a podcast for that. Need help marketing your latest product on social media? Someone’s just released a brand new episode on exactly that. And the amount of information someone can get across is a podcast episode is just unrivalled. It’s not 5 top tips, we’re talking a good half an hour of useful, (hopefully) entertaining, expert chat about exactly what you need to know.
That’s just three of the MANY reasons we love listening to podcasts and why we love making them too. But don’t worry radio, you’ll always hold a special place in our heart.
