The C Word

Right, now Halloween is out of the way we can officially talk about the C word…Christmas!!!

It’s the season of mince pies, mulled wine and Uncle Derek getting too drunk before the turkey and offending everyone with some poorly timed family revelations… But it’s also the season of the Christmas Special!

Who doesn’t remember that iconic Gavin & Stacey episode where Nessa finally confessed her feelings to Smithy? What about Rodney and Del Boy dressed as Batman and Robin? Or an inevitable festive death in Albert Square?

But the Christmas special isn’t just reserved for the TV, they can be wonderful in podcasts too, and there’s a few reasons we can’t wait to hear them.

A Christmas special allows you to veer away from the usual format, to think outside the box. Whether that be talking about things you wouldn’t normally cover or getting a special guest on with you. To surprise the listener with content they weren’t expecting. Maybe to hear a different side of you you’ve not been able to show before because it didn’t fit into your usual structure.

It’s also an excuse to have a bit of a party on your podcast. Crack open the eggnog (does anyone still drink eggnog?) and see where the conversation takes you. The rule book’s out of the window because no one’s expecting an episode like all the others. That’s what a Christmas special is all about!

And on the flip side of that is Over the Influence, where Shazza, Freddie and Ben will be talking about how to not just survive an alcohol-free Christmas, but to actually enjoy it. Being able to be present for the whole day, and remember it all on Boxing Day when everyone else is dying from a hangover.

A Christmas special feels exactly that… Special. So, roll on the festive period and those lovely two weeks off work to turn the alarm clock off, catch up with family and friends, and listen to all the podcasts we can get our hands/ears on.
